What to expect from a media training
Working with the media is a valuable opportunity to build public awareness for important topics and highlight the value of University of Minnesota research and leadership across our state and beyond.
The University Public Relations team offers tailored resources to help University experts and representatives prepare for effective and successful experiences with journalists.
Media training is available year-round for small and large groups interested in broadening their understanding of the media landscape and knowing what to do before, during, and after a reporter reaches out. (Hint: you’re not on your own—we’re here to help!) We’re also available to meet one-on-one to consult on a response or strategies for upcoming interviews.
Hour-long training sessions can be delivered in person or via Zoom and include a presentation that covers:
- proactive media relations—news releases, pitching, and more
- tips for aligning media expectations with your goals
- interview basics, including tips for different formats (e.g., live or recorded TV, radio, or print interviews)
- crafting quotable key messages
- navigating complex topics
There’s always room for discussion, so don’t hesitate to come with questions.
