Spotlighting 2026 Internal Communications trends
Every year, Workshop surveys hundreds of internal communicators from around the world to learn how they’re working, what’s working and what’s next for them.
Their 2026 report reveals key takeaways including:
Email is still the anchor channel for internal communications
It remains both the most-used and most effective tool: 95% of teams use it, and 81% say it’s their most effective channel.
AI is a real part of the workflow
Forty-two percent of respondents said they are using AI daily in their workflows. Currently, the top ways internal communicators use AI is for content production, strategy or planning and summarizing employee feedback or survey results.
Automation is gaining traction
While content production is the top use case right now, the No. 1 way communicators want to use AI in 2026 is for automation. Sixty-eight percent say automating repetitive tasks is their top priority.
Manager communication is still the No. 1 trend
Fifty-six percent of communicators say it’s their top trend for 2026. Cascades are improving, but only 4% say managers are very effective today.
Creating employee influencers is becoming a real strategy
Forty-one percent want to explore using employee influencers, those who genuinely model the culture, break down big messages into everyday language, and bring updates to life in a way leadership can’t. Internal communicators want to focus on amplifying internal voices and not just top-down channels.
